Mildred Blakeslee

June 22, 1930 — April 17, 2013

Mildred Louise Blakeslee Shearer Hughes, age 82, of Cambridge Springs, died Wednesday April 17, 2013, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Union City, PA on June 22, 1930, the daughter of the late Paul and Iva Blakeslee.

Mildred attended Business College and completed nursing school, working as an industrial nurse for Continental Rubber Company for 12 years before becoming the organization's personnel manager.

Following her retirement from nursing she owned and operated the Lilac Farm in Cambridge Springs with her husband Wayne of 21 years.

She was a member of Mill Village Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her daughter Diane McLaughlin, a grandson, Robert McLaughlin, and three brothers: Hugh, Bobbie and John Blakeslee.

She is survived by her husband Wayne Hughes; three daughters: Kathy Reil (Ron) of Erie, Carol Loomis of Palm Harbor, Fla., Rosemary Palmer of New Port Richie, Fla., two sons: Donald Shearer (Laurie) of Cambridge Springs and Paul Shearer (Louise) of Waterford; two stepdaughters: Debbie Backus (Rick) of Rio, WV and Cheryle Sickle; three sisters: Eileen Simcheck (George), Mary Devore (Norman) and Joyce Douglas (Carl) all of Cambridge Springs; one brother, Richard Blakeslee (Pat) of Tampa, Fla., 17 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law Joyce Blakeslee and a son-in-law Robert McLaughlin.

No calling hours will be observed and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements entrusted to Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, Inc., 464 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335.
