Mildred Benson

March 3, 1911 — March 23, 2013

     Mildred A. Weinheimer Benson, 102, formerly of W. 30th St. and Dufford Terrace, died Sat., March 23, 2013 at St. Mary's at Asbury Ridge.     She was born March 3, 1911, in Erie, daughter of the late Clarence P. and Frances Lander Weinheimer.  A lifelong resident of Erie, she attended Academy High School and worked for Marx Toys for ten years retiring in 1950.  She was a  member of St. John's Lutheran Church, a former member of the church's Martha Circle and Young at Heart, as well as a former member of Daughters of Zions and Keenagers.  Mrs. Benson enjoyed playing cards, sewing, knitting and crocheting.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Chester Oscar Benson in 1993; a brother, Joseph Weinheimer; and son-in-law, Harry Beno.
     Survivors include two daughters, Deanna Leuenberger and husband John of Fairview and Charlene Beno of North Tonawanda, NY, five grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
     Friends are invited to attend a funeral service at St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Roy P. Washill officiating.  Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., Erie, PA 16502.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.
