Michael H. Simon, age 65, of Millcreek Township, passed away peacefully at his home on August 12, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie on May 28, 1953, the son of the late Edward and Rosemary (Haule) Simon.
Mike attended St. Andrew’s and Cathedral Prep before getting his Bachelor’s Degree from Penn State University. He later attended Gwynedd Mercy University in Philadelphia, PA for Cardiopulmonary Technology and Grossmount College in San Diego, CA for Perfusion.
The survivor of a train/car collision in 1975, Mike found his calling for health care in strong part due to the medical staff who cared for and brought him back to full fitness at Saint Vincent Health Center.
For 30 years Mike worked at Saint Vincent Health Center, most of the time as a Perfusionist. In 2007, Mike began working for Terumo Cardiovascular Group, based in Ann Arbor, MI, as a Principal Clinical Specialist, educating medical professionals throughout the country on perfusion equipment and operation. Mike was truly loved by the friends he made throughout his career. His knowledge, patient teaching style, and genuineness to support his colleagues gained him an upstanding reputation in his field across the country.
Mike was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and shareholder, classic car enthusiast, and self-taught computer guru, owning a stake in his own small IT company, Vertical Leap Inc.
Mike was a devoted husband and family man. He was a caring, kind, and generous man who touched the lives of everyone he interacted with. He loved his family more than anything.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Susan Simon in March of this year.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 33 years, Susan M. (Benko) Simon; his 3 children, Eric Wijkowski, Sarah Williams (Dennis), and Gregory M. Simon. Lastly, by his grandson, Maxwell Simon Williams, who affectionately called him “Bappa”. Also surviving are his three brothers, Paul of Columbia, GA, Tom of Eureka, CA, and John (Jen) of Captiola, CA.
Friends may call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th and Liberty St., on Sunday, August 19, 2018 from 2:00 PM until a Time of Sharing at 4:00 PM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Safe Harbor Behavioral Health, 1330 W 26th St, Erie, PA 16508; Stairways, 2185 W. 8th St. Erie, PA 16505; or the Mental Health Association, 1101 Peach St, Erie, PA 16501.
