Michael Joseph Savelli, 60, of Lawrence Park and formerly of North East, died unexpectedly on Friday, March 4, 2016 at his home. He was born on November 20, 1955, in Erie, son of the late Guido and Mary "Marge" Anderson Savelli.
A 1973 graduate of Tech Memorial High School, Michael graduated from J. H. Thompson Beauty Academy and furthered his education at Toni and Guy in London, England, and at Sassoon in New York City and Toronto, Canada. He started his career as a hair stylist in 1977 at Your Father's Moustache where he worked as an educator and established salons across the United States. He and his brother Mario founded Attitudes Salon, and in 1991 Michael and Larry Yost opened Topics where Michael worked until his retirement in 2014. He loved his profession as well as his clients and co-workers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Mario Savelli and his mother-in-law, Irene Watkins.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Debbie Watkins Savelli; two daughters, Angela Savelli (Nicole Roberts) of Santa Rosa, CA and Laura Savelli of Pittsburgh. He is further survived by his father-in-law, John Watkins; brother-in-law, Donald (Penny) Watkins; sister-in-law, Lucille Savelli; nephews, Michael David Savelli and John A. Watkins (Corrine); and nieces, Melissa and Andrea Watkins; all of Erie.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. A service will be held there Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph E. Chiarelli, Associate Pastor of Calvary Christian Center, officiating. Private inurnment will be at Erie Cemetery Columbarium.
