Michael Platz

Michael J. "Mike" Platz, 63, died on Friday, August 23, 2019, at his home in Erie following an extended illness.  He was born on August 3, 1956, in Erie, son of Anna K. Schaefer Platz and the late Charles R. Platz.  A 1974 graduate of McDowell High School, Mr. Platz attended Triangle Tech.  He was a toolmaker working for General Electric for 15 years, retiring in June 2018, and previously for Reed Manufacturing, Johnson Controls (Hoover Mfg.), and the Master Mold Division of Plastek.  Mr. Platz enjoyed hunting, fishing, rebuilding his 1951 Chevy truck, and building car and airplane models.  He was very handy and could fix almost anything.  

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Sue Ann Nielsen Platz; his mother, Anna K. Schaefer Platz of Erie; a son, Timothy Platz of Erie; a daughter, Amy Platz of Royersford, Pa.; a sister, Cheryl A. Nielsen and husband John of North East, Pa.; three brothers, Allen Platz and wife Karen of Fairview, Pa., Bruce Platz and wife Wendy of Millcreek Twp. and Douglas Platz and wife Pam of Salem, Connecticut.  He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services are private at the convenience of the family.  

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street.  

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
