Michael Coates, Sr., age 66, of Erie, PA, made his transition on Friday, February 4, 2022, at UPMC Hamot.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 7, 1955, to the union of the late Daniel Coates, Sr., and Louise Thompson Coates.
Michael started his Christian Life at a very early age. He sang in the choir at Allen Temple AME Church, in Detroit, Michigan. He later dedicated his life back to Christ and was baptized at Cleveland Church of Christ in Cleveland.
Michael attended Cleveland Public School and, after moving, Detroit Public School. In Detroit, he was employed at Chrysler Van Dyke Stamping Plant. He later relocated to Erie and was employed at Bush Furniture, in Summit; Liberty Iron, in Erie; Port Erie Plastic, in Harborcreek; and Plastek, in Millcreek.
Michael enjoyed life to the fullest and never met a stranger. He loved his family, singing, and dancing. Michael enjoyed football and playing cards. He was such a giving person. Michael would give anyone a ride if they called him. He always had a side hustle like making DVD movies. He really enjoyed his ½ Pint.
In addition to his parents, Michael is proceeded in death by his twin sister, Michelle; sister, Kathryn “Katie”; three brothers, Daniel Jr. “Danny Boy”, Charles “Chuckie”, and David Coates; and his stepdaughter, Kimberly Mitchell.
He was survived by his wife, Connie, who died this past Monday on Valentine's Day; one son, Michael, Jr. (Yolanda), of Dearborn, MI; stepdaughters, Danielle (Shawn) King, of Jamestown, NY, and Stephanie (James) Hall, of North Carolina; stepson, Corry Green, of Jamestown; three sisters, Patricia Thomas, of Erie, Nina Ross, of Clinton Twp., MI, and Denise Wilkerson, of Kingwood, TX; a brother, Dennis (Kathy) Coates, of Erie; sister-in-law, Penny (Dave), of Erie; brother-in-law, Butch Asel, of Panama, NY; father-in-law, Ralph Ansel, of Panama; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 19, 2022at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc Downtown, 602 W. 10th St, Erie 16502 from 11:00 AM until time of memorial service at noon. Masks are required.
