Michael Brown

March 6, 1962 — October 27, 2013

Michael James “Mike” Brown, age 51, of Canadohta Lake and formerly of Albion, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday October 27, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mike died where he had wanted to be, the place that made him the happiest, his cottage on Canadohta Lake.

He was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, on March 6, 1962, the son of James R. and the late Theresa Brown.

He was a 1980 graduate of McDowell High School. Mike worked at Villa Medical Supply for 27 years, where he made his way from sales to president. He was a member of the Sunflower Club, South Erie Turners, Siebenbuerger, Edinboro/McKean VFW 740 and the Albion Moose Lodge. Mike was an active member of the St. Lawrence parish, serving on parish council, religious education instructor, Eucharistic Minister and was fondly referred to as the “Pie Man” at various church functions.

Mike had a faith changing experience when he made Cursillo #170. He served as secretariat and had worked on many teams. He was an avid supporter of Erie Homes for Children and Adults.

Mike loved to cook, fish, bowl and most importantly loved his family. He was very supportive and active in their lives. His pride and joy were his grandchildren.

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by a brother, James R. Brown; Grandparents Francis and Getrude Brown and Donato and Lillian Iavarone; father-in-law Earl Matson; brother-in-law Michael Matson and great niece Janelle Matson

Mike is survived by his father and step mother Debbie; his best friend and loving wife of 23 years, Suzanne Matson Brown; three sons, TSgt Joshua T. Brown and his wife TSgt Samantha of Okinawa, Japan, A1C Michael J. Brown II of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia and Anthony M. Brown and his fiancée Ashley Beatty of Albion; three grandchildren, Matthew, Elijah and Zachary of Okinawa; a brother, Frank J. Brown and wife Renee of Erie, Daniel J. Brown and wife Dena of Strongsville, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, De Brown of Erie. He is further survived by mother-in-law Jeanne Matson; sister-in-law, Lori Sauers and husband Joe; brothers-in-law, Ernest and wife Jackie, Earl Matson and wife Debbie, John Matson and wife Tina; his Godchildren Randi Brown, John Matson Jr., Kaylan Matson, Steve and Cody Swartz. Aunt Mary Iavarone and many nieces and nephews also survive. He leaves behind very dear friends Robin and Kathleen Herman, Dan and Patty Drakes, Bill and Betty Dilla, Char and Don Kumpf, his Cursillo and St. Lawrence families and his faithful companion dog Lexi.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home Girard, 525 Main St. East on Friday 1-3 PM and 5-8 PM. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday 10 AM at St. Lawrence the Martyr Church in Albion with Father Phil Oriole officiating.
