Meredyth Rawa

Meredyth E. Rawa, age 78, of Erie, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.

She was born in Erie on November 13, 1935 a daughter of the late Ralph and Flora Bacon.

She graduated from Strong Vincent High School and Allegheny College.

She worked as a legal secretary for the Gifford, Lay, Johnson, and Ridge Law firm for many years until her retirement in 1986.

Meredyth was a member of the Sarah Hearn United Presbyterian Church, now New Hope Presbyterian, where she sang in the choir many years, she also belonged to the Peace Core in the 60’s. She loved to reading, gardening, traveling, crossword puzzles, and Steelers football. She was a AARP income tax volunteer with her husband for over 17 years, she was an avid bowler, her whole life and was a volunteer as a Candy Striper at Hamot Medical Center. Meredyth adored her collie Marco Polo.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Richard T. Rawa, and two sisters: Janet David and Barbara Haney.

She is survived by a step daughter: Judy A. Rawa Shuey and her husband Tim of Harrisburg, PA and a daughter in law: Nancy A. Rawa of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 11am until the time of service at 1pm. with Rev. Charles McClung officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
