Melena C. Reed-Atkinson, 78, of Erie passed away on May 25, 2013 in Laurel, Mississippi at the home of her daughter. Melena was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 28, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Monte Dujuambi and Fannie Mae Bell.
Melena was an active member of Bayview Jehovah Witness. She was a retired Headstart Teacher with more than 32 years of service.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother Monte Dujue; sister, Mona Sutherland, and two grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, William C. Atkinson; three daughters, Lesnie Foster of Roy, Utah, Alverna (Jerry) Beasley, of Laurel, MS, Allison (George) Lofton-Barlow, of Louin, MS; two sons, Alfonso (Catherine) Foster of California, and Kevin Foster, of Erie; three step-sons, Charles (Peggy) Atkinson, Harold Atkinson and Richard Atkinson, all of Erie and step-daughter, Hazel (David) Green, of Atlanta, Georgia; and sister, Laquita Wise, of Cleveland, OH. She is further survived by 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; also 11 step-grandchildren, 15 great step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 602 W 10th Street on Sunday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm and are invited to a Services at the Bayview Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall 621 West 2nd Street on Monday at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Watchtower Society 25 Columbia Heights, Brooklyn, NY 11201.
