Melanie Davis-Coleman

February 14, 1968 — February 6, 2025

Erie

Melanie Davis-Coleman, 56, of Erie, passed away peacefully in her home on February 6th, with her daughter by her side. Melanie fought a 26-year battle with Lupus that caused many other health complications which she conquered bravely. Melanie was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 14, 1968.

After Highschool and some college Melanie traveled to Baltimore, Maryland where she met her husband and started her career as a healthcare worker. She worked for many years as a CNA, and as a medicine aid at Good Samaritan Nursing center. Melanie was pursuing nursing school when she got her diagnosis of Lupus. Due to her no longer having the use of her hands, she switched careers to work in the clerical side of healthcare. Melanie wanted to work in the medical field of any capacity because she had a joy of taking care of the ill and believed that there was a true healing power in love.

In addition to healthcare work, Melanie had a passion for interior design and decorating. Oftentimes she would play the Sims game to practice her hobbies. This prompted her to get her real estate license to pursue decorating and flipping houses. Once again, her illness deterred her from achieving her dream but that did not stop her journey. Melanie continued to live life in grace and would cherish her moments with her family. On the weekends they would travel for hours to find the best food spots in and outside the state. She poured her heart into cooking and teaching her daughter the craft. One summer they cooked all of Lidia Bastianich’s cookbook “Lidia’s Italian Table” from cover to cover. Melanie also had a love of cats. Often wearing cat and cartoon themed scrubs to work. Her fur babies were Diamond and Sapphire, two chocolate point Siamese cats, named for their vibrant blue eyes.

Melanie’s faith in God allowed her to continue to live life to its fullest even in the face of so much adversity. Her kindness and sweet disposition were cherished by many. All who met her had nothing but kind words for her and everyone loved Melanie's sugar free baked goods. Items she perfected to satisfy her husband's sweet tooth when he developed diabetes.

In 2011 Melanie followed her daughter to Erie, Pennsylvania where she continued her career in healthcare and joined the Saint Vincent Family as a scheduling coordinator. Her coworkers quickly became her friends and would often send food and gift cards to assist her husband in caring for her.

Her husband Henry was lovingly devoted to his wife and was her caregiver in times of sickness. Towards the last 8 years of her life Melanie developed Chronic Kidney Disease and her husband whom she affectionately called Mack took her to all of her dialysis appointments and continued to champion her care even at the age of 75. He was greatly protective of his wife and loved her fiercely.

In addition to her husband of 27 years, Melanie is survived by her daughter Mia whom she passed on her cooking talents and many of her soft, kind personality traits. She affectionately called her daughter “her mini me” and named her Mia because it means “mine”. Melanie is also survived by her step-son, his children, whom she affectionately referred to as her grandbabies, and their mothers, whom she always considered to be a part of her family.
