Matthew Wright

Matthew P. “Pete” Wright, age 83, of McKean, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2021 at Fairview Manor due to complications from pneumonia.

He was born in Manhattan, NY on March 4, 1937, a son of the late Matthew Victor JR. and Doris Peterson Wright.

 Pete graduated from Kane High School, Allegheny College and University of Pittsburgh.  In 1961, Pete joined the first Peace Corps group which was organized by President John F. Kennedy and served in Tanganyika, East Africa for two years.  Upon his return he began his career as an Industrial Engineer and worked for several manufactures including Armco Steel, Erie Technological Products, Lord Corporation and Hydro-Pac. In addition, he worked as a Stock and Bond salesman, a Project Manager, a Field Agent and a Quality Consultant.  Pete had a lifelong interest in winter sports, especially downhill skiing. He also enjoyed sail boating, horses, gardening and golf. He and his wife, Nancy, were active members of the Erie Yacht Club and the Erie Hunt and Saddle Club.  Pete was a member of many clubs and societies including Sertoma, The ASQ Institute of Industrial Engineers, and SME to name a few.

In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his wife Nancy Wright; his sister, Linda, a brother, Tim and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. 

He is survived by two sisters in law and their children.

Services were held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home 525 Main St. Girard.
