Mary Gocal Wortman, age 94, of Girard and formerly of Erie, passed away Tuesday April 4, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor.
She was born in Mineral County, West Virginia on September 5, 1922, a daughter of the late Stanlaus and Mary Kapica Gocal.
Mary was raised in Mill Village and worked as an assembler at Marx Toys for many years. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Church. She loved Bingo, playing cards, traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Bender in 1976; second husband, Raymond Wortman in 2012 and a daughter, Sandie Brewer in 2011; three brothers: Stanley, Peter, and Philip Gocal; a sister, Ann Sears; as well as a great grandson, Nathan Kinnear.
Mary is survived by her son Robert Bender and his wife, Gerry Ann of Girard; a brother, John Gocal of Mill Village and eight grandchildren: Brande Stevens (David), Christine Martin (Joe), Daniel Bender, Tammy Kinnear (Steven), Ronald Brewer (Rose), Robert Brewer (Tanya), Cynthia Brewer and Heidi Brewer. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East in Girard, on Friday from 4-7pm and are invited to attend a service there on Saturday at 1pm with celebrant, Rev. Michael Demartinis.
Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Girard.
