Mary Dolores (Marydee) Weir, age 93, of Erie passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023 at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge. She was born April 28,1929 in Pittsburgh, PA the daughter of the late Victor Hamilton and Florence (Abbott) Weir.
Mary Dolores graduated from Villa Maria grade school in 1943; Villa Maria Academy in 1947; and graduated cum laude from Villa Maria College in 1951 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Education. She later received her Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling from Gannon College in 1967 and was inducted into Kappa Gamma Pi (a national scholastic and activity honor society of Catholic women’s colleges.)
Mary Dolores spent 39 years as a business education teacher, first for Rowe High School in Conneaut, OH from 1951-1962 and later from 1962-1991 at McDowell High School. She was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees and attended St. Peter Cathedral parish. Marydee enjoyed knitting, crafts, reading, and volunteering at the Kid’s Café.
Besides her parents, Marydee was preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Ronald J. Weir and a niece, Rebecca Louise Weir.
She is survived by a nephew, Stephen James Weir (Shelby) and their children, John and Edward of Wesley Chapel. FL. Along with many dear relatives, friends, and teaching associates. Marydee’s family would especially like to Thank the staff at St. Mary’s Asbury Ridge for the wonderful care they provided during her stay with them
Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Monday, March 13, 2023 from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Cathedral.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter Cathedral, 230 W.10th St., Erie, PA 16501; St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge, 4855 West Ridge Rd., Erie, PA 16506 or UPMC Home Healthcare of Western PA,. 1700 Peach St., Erie, PA 16501.
