Mary Jean Dodsworth Walter, 79, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born April 19, 1937 in Olean, NY, the daughter of the late William Milburn and Isabel Jantzer Dodsworth. A lifelong resident of Erie, Mary was a graduate of McDowell High School Class of 1956. She worked at Security Peoples Trust Co. and later 34 years for Kaufmann’s/Macy’s. She was a member of St. George Catholic Church, and a lifelong member of the Erie Zukor Club Ladies Auxiliary.
Mary will be remembered as a kind, generous, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin as well as a good friend and neighbor. She loved to host parties, bake and decorate cakes; travel, work in her flower and garden beds, as well as making crafts in her spare time. She also enjoyed collecting and displaying her Dickens Village. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Deborah Walter of Erie; Mary Beth Walter of Erie; and Susan Walter Kelly and her husband, Doug of Cranberry Twp., PA. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Mindy Brooke Fulcher, Jason Tomlin, Regan Kelly, and Ryan Kelly; her sister Patricia Dodsworth Hillman of McMinnville, TN; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, William and Gerard Dodsworth; a sister, Shirley Dodsworth Jelinek; and a niece, Linda Dodsworth Kubicek.
Family and friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 West 9th Street, on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. George Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Trinity Cemetery.
