Mary Guerrein Walker
February 1, 1925 – September 4, 2015
Mary Walker, a life-long resident of Erie, passed away Friday, September 4, 2015, after a brief illness.
Mary was loved and adored by her family and friends for her quick wit and humor as well as her caring and giving nature. She volunteered to serve many organizations and was always helping those in need. Mary‘s hobbies included playing bridge and reading good books.
She was former President of the Erie County Medical Auxiliary, President and life member of the Carrie T. Watson Garden Club, and board member of Mercyhurst Preparatory School as well as Erie Day School. Mary attended St. Joseph Elementary School and Villa Maria Academy, class of 1942.
She is survived by her sister Rita Boetger; seven children including James D. (Bonnie) of Princeton, NJ; Mary Christine of Pittsburgh; JoAnn Lyons (Peter) of Erie; Susan Scott (Troy) of Erie; Patricia (Kelly Cahill) of Poolesville, MD; John H. of Poolesville, MD; Nancy Macklin (Karl) of Silver Spring, MD; grandchildren David and Julia Walker, Andrew Lyons, Peter, Jeremy, and Christopher and Hunter Scott, Daniel and Madison Walker Cahill; Kathryn and Laura Walker; Patrick, Joseph, and James Macklin; great grandchildren Lincoln, Sullivan, Noah and Sawyer Scott. She also had many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph H. and Laura Whalen Guerrein; former husband James F. Walker, M.D.; son Thomas Andrew Walker; and siblings Robert, Paul and Donald, and Bette Lou Theuerkauf Julio.
The family wishes to express gratitude to the wonderful staff at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge where Mary resided, as well as to the staff of St. Vincent Hospital.
Please join the family on Monday, September 7th at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home , 728 West 9th Street, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and you are invited to attend a Prayer Service there Tuesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2801 W. 6th St. with Msgr. Henry Kriegel as celebrant. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
