Mary Jewell Tate, age 70, of Erie, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1943 in Jones County, MS , daughter of the late Claude and Johnnie Mae Hales Lindsey. Mary was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church and previously Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and Community Missionary Baptist Church. She retired as a supervisor in central processing after 15 years of employment at Hamot Medical Center. Mary always had something funny to say and was always there to help someone in need. She passed on her laughter to people she met, and was a warm and generous woman.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, George, Percy and Claude “Bo” Lindsey. Survivors include her husband Lucius Tate; three children, Samantha J. Polk, Jeffery S. Lindsey and Cathy Hamel; five grandchildren, Tyler BreAnn, Dominique, Utiv, Jaminson and Yvonne; a great-granddaughter, Saniya and her Godson, Myles. Friends may call Friday evening from 7-9 PM at the Shiloh Baptist Church, 901 East 5th Street and attend the funeral service there Saturday morning at 11:00 AM. Duane F. Hunter will officiate. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery.
