Mary Spadacene

September 23, 1924 — May 3, 2017

Mary Banducci Spadacene, born in Erie, PA on September 23, 1924, departed this life, surrounded by her loving family, on May 3, 2017 in Pittsburgh, PA.

Although the hallmark of Mary’s life was her devotion to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Mary never met an estate sale she didn’t like, a deep-discount sale she could pass up, or an antique store she could drive by without stopping in to explore.  Mary was unfailingly generous with her love and with her time, and she was always willing to share.  These characteristics were often demonstrated at her dinner table where friends and family were warmly welcomed.  Mary loved her children and grandchildren and took great pleasure in all of their accomplishments.  “Bye for now,” Mom.  You will be deeply missed.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Helmar “Elmer” Spadacene and by her brother, Carl Banducci.  She is survived by her children: Joseph Spadacene and his wife Lynn, of Bethel Park, PA; Barbara Spadacene McNamara and her husband James, of Erie; Anna Spadacene Maras and her husband Bob, of McMurray, PA and Christopher Spadacene and his wife Carla, of Oakmont, PA.  She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Ricci Lynn, David and Sara Spadacene; Margaret M. Schmid (Paul), Conor (Samantha) and Elizabeth McNamara; Laura M. Dixon (Ted), Bobby (Carol) and Rachael Maras, and Gemma Spadacene.  Mary is also survived by her sisters-in-law: Mary Banducci and Audrey Spadacene along with six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to call at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church,1617 Walnut St., on Monday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m. with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart/St. Paul Catholic Church, 816 W. 26th St., Erie, PA 16508; Bridges Hospice, 1200 Gulf Lab Road, Pittsburgh, PA  15238, or to the charity of one’s choice.
