Mary Sorgen

Mary Conroy Catherine Sorgen age 100, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at Manchester Commons.
She was born in Fort Wayne, IN on March 17, 1917, the daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Steigerwald Conroy.
She was a devoted homemaker and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Mary graduated from St. Augustine’s Academy in Fort Wayne, IN.
She was a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of Knights of Columbus and Pleasant Ridge Manor.
She was a member of St. Julia’s Roman Catholic Church, Altar Rosary Society, Belles of St. Julia, and did volunteer work for the Red Cross and American Cancer Society.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Merwin A. (Mike) Sorgen; an infant daughter Sharon Rose; a son, Stephen Thomas Sorgen; and her four siblings.
Mary is survived by a daughter, Susan Susol and her husband Victor of Erie; a son Anthony Sorgen and his wife True Dee of Moline, IL; daughter in law, Mary Dida Sorgen; seven grandchildren; Deborah Sorgen Cohen (Steven), Christine Sorgen Shippling (John) , Nicole Sorgen Baumann, Benjamin Sorgen (Shay), Dennis Susol (Kathleen), Victor Susol (Gretchen) and Michael Susol (Anne);  great grandchildren, Anna, Jakob and Katherine Susol, Emmett and Parker Susol and Emeline and Genevieve Baumann.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Mary’s loving caregivers and staff at Manchester Commons.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Julia’s Church 638 Roslyn Ave, Erie, PA 16505  at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
