Mary Smith

Mary Ellen Smith, age 69, of Erie, passed away at her residence on Thursday, August 11, 2022, surrounded by her family and loved ones.  

She was born on April 24, 1953, in Erie, a daughter to Charles and Virginia (Serafini) Smith. 

Mary Ellen graduated St. Vincent High School. She then worked for her family’s business, Chuck & Ginny’s, one which her parents founded in 1961, presuming ownership with her sister to carry out their legacy.   After its closing, Mary Ellen was integral in re-opening the restaurant to make sauce and delicious dishes for customers in Erie. In addition to her love of cooking, she enjoyed being outside in the sun and travelling. Mary Ellen was an avid QVC shopper and never missed a single Hallmark Movie.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Hickey and her only brother, David Smith.  

She leaves behind to cherish her memory two children, Lisa M. Smith (James Tate) and Richard B. Smith (wife Barbara), all of Erie; sister, Virginia Smith, of Erie; three grandchildren, Nathan Goetz, Cleveland Pullium III and Dante Pullium; two great-grandchildren, Khalani Pullium and Messiah Pullium; and several nieces and nephews along with an endless number of amazing friends who loved and cared her. 

We would also like to recognize the amazing staff from the AGH LVAD team and thank Dr. Manreet Kanwar, MD for her exceptional and compassionate care.  

Friends are invited to call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc Downtown, 602 W 10^th St., on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 2:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. and invited Monday to St. Andrew Church, 1116 W. 7^th St. from 10:00 A.M. until Funeral Mass at 11:00 A.M.
