Mary Reed
October 24, 1923 — January 1, 2021
Mary (Macko) Reed, age 97, of Erie passed away peacefully Friday, January 1, 2021 at home
surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 24, 1923 in Homestead, PA the daughter
of the late Andrew and Mary (Palko) Macko.
A longtime resident of Erie, Mary was a loving and devoted mother to her five children.
Following the activities of her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren were at the top of
her priority list. She loved to bake, entertain, and was known to have a compassionate heart.
Mary loved playing cards, dice, and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. A devout
Catholic, she was always willing to open her home and help those in need.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard K. Reed; a son Richard
A. Reed; two brothers, George and John Macko; and four sisters; Sr. Ernestine Macko, Agnes
Richel, Helen Proty, and Matilda Cush.
Mary is survived by her four daughters; Christine Reed, Maribeth Crago, Terri Reed, Jennifer
Reed (Russ Thompson), and former son-in-law Donny Crago, all of Erie. She is the proud
grandmother of Erin Tate, Andrew Boyer, Hannah Boyer, Rebecca Ebersole, Luke Cargo,
Spencer Zoth, and Rickie Reed. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will be private with burial in Erie Co. Memorial Gardens.
