Mary Ellen Reddinger, 84, of Erie, passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
She was born in Erie on November 22, 1940, daughter of the late Oscar and Betty Hofmann. Mary Ellen graduated from Villa Maria Academy, Class of 1958. She worked at Erie County Adult Probation until her retirement in 2004. Mary Ellen was a devout Catholic, who said her Rosary daily and always had her beads by her side. She was a member of Saint Peter Cathedral. Spending time with family was truly her greatest joy; whether it was in person, a phone-call or “on the computer” she cherished every single moment with her people. Having lunch daily with her two sisters, who were her best friends, was at the very top of her favorite things list. Most of her local lunch spots would bring her a Diet Coke right away before she even ordered. Mary Ellen had phenomenal penmanship and was the queen of sending cards. If you were lucky enough to receive one from her, know that she cared deeply about you. She also had the true gift of hospitality, all guests felt welcomed and everyone in her home undoubtedly had something to eat that they loved. ‘Nene’ especially had lots and lots of treats for the grandchildren and great grandchildren! On the table where the delicious food was served, you would often see a handmade centerpiece as she was very crafty too. Mary Ellen was a very kind, gentle soul. She had a great smile, even in her last days-she ALWAYS smiled. She will be missed by all who loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ed, mother and father-in -law, and sister and brothers in-law. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Nene’s true loves - all “her darlings” - grandchildren and great grandchildren, two sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
