Mary Nichols

Mary Stone Garloch Nichols, age 92, of Erie, died on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at Sarah Reed Retirement Center. Born in Erie on February 4, 1922, daughter of the late Charles J. and Grace Hewitt Haller.

She was a 1939 graduate of Strong Vincent High School and a graduate in 1941 of Lasell Junior College, Auburndale, Mass. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. She also served on the board of Erie Homes for Children and Adults and was a member of the Hamot Aid Society. She enjoyed modeling at the Boston Store and working at the Village Store. She was one classy lady, who will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her former husband Jack F. Stone and her husbands Edward L. Garloch and Richard Nichols and a son in law, Kevin Mitchell.

She is survived by her daughter Betsy Stone Mitchell, a son John C. Stone and his wife Sharon, both of Erie; six step children: Richard Nichols and his wife Debbie of Reading, PA, Edward Nichols and his wife Judy of Smyrna, Tenn., Gerald Nichols and his wife Barbara of Columbia, PA, Susan Moczulski and her husband Donald and Rebecca Adair and her husband Evan, both of Erie, Dr. Gail Garloch of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Further survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street on Saturday December 27th from 1pm until the time of the service at 3pm with Rev. Timm High officiating. Burial in Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Erie Homes for Children and Adults, 226 East 27th Street, Erie PA 16504.
