Mary Ellen McQuown

Mary Ellen McQuown, age 61, of Erie passed away Friday, June 26, 2015 following a sudden illness. She was born September 25, 1953 in Erie the daughter of the late John “Terry” and Laurel (Groff)  McQuown.
Mary Ellen studied Art and Jewelry design at Mercyhurst College and Edinboro University. She was an avid reader and enjoyed art history, gardening, and jewelry.
Her most treasured role, which brought great pride and joy, was being a mother to her son Terry. She most recently worked at the Erie Art Museum and prior to moving back to Erie, she was a long time resident of Newport, Rhode Island.
Besides her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by a brother, Matthew McQuown.
She  is survived by her son, Terry McQuown of Erie; two sisters, Michele Megley and her husband Sean of North Attleboro, MA and Maureen Kurtic and her husband Eugene of Erie; two brothers, Timothy McQuown and his wife Maureen of Newton, MA and Christopher McQuown and his wife Shelley of Erie. She is the aunt of Katie Megley Black, Colleen Megley, Alison McQuown, Rachel McQuown, Laurel Kurtic, and Jack McQuown.
Friends are invited to call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. Saturday, June 27, 2015,  from 2:00 PM until 3:45 PM at which time a Prayer Service will be held. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie Art Museum, 411 State St., Erie, PA 16501.
