Mary Louise Kahl (Gehrlein), age 86, died at Advent Health Hospice Center on January 21, 2021.
She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Ralph and Genevieve (Jerge) Gehrlein and lived most of her life in Erie and Riverside, California. Mary Lou graduated from Strong Vincent High School and married David P. Kahl also of Erie. They were married for over 50 years. Always supportive of her husband, an English teacher and former football coach at East High School, Mary Lou co-founded an organization known as the “Coaches Wives” in 1961 that hosted fund raising events to support local charities. Later in life, Mary Lou worked as an aide to children with disabilities. Mary Lou was an avid reader, crossword puzzle master (NY Times Sunday Crossword – in pen) and card shark. She is survived by her 5 children, Deborah (Mark) Harris of Erie, PA and their children, Christopher (Katie) Harris and their son, Rudy, and Justin (Mindy) Harris and their children, Benjamin, Sullivan and Chase, and Ryan (Lacey) Harris and their sons, Mason and Cooper; Michael (Alison Teeter) Kahl of Rochester, NY and his children, Meredith Kahl and Joseph (Haley) Kahl and their son, Henry; Cindy (Jim) Anderson of Casselberry, FL; Mary (Eric) Redman of Sacramento, CA and their children, Rachel and Elena; and Thomas Kahl of Corona, CA. No funeral service is planned due to the Coronavirus epidemic. Interment will be private.
