Mary Lou Thomas

January 25, 1932 — February 13, 2019

Mary Lou Swarner Thomas of, Lakeshore, died February 13, 2019 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.  Born January 25, 1932, daughter of the late James B. and Mary Swarner. 

She was a charter member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church and served on the Board of Trustees.  She also was a member of the Hamot Aid Society, The Erie Art Museum, Kahkwa Club and Erie Yacht Club, where she enjoyed many years sailing on the Lucinda.  Mary Lou played golf, tennis, bridge, painted in oils and loved traveling, but the time she spent with her family and many longtime friends were the moments she cherished the most. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Thomas, son, Charles J. Thomas, an infant son, and son-in-law, David L. Walz. 

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Walz, of Flower Mound, TX; grandson, Jonathan Walz (Desiree); great grandson, Ethan, of Denton TX; grandson Matthew Walz, of Lewisville, TX; two sisters, Carolyn (Bob) Giffin, of Seattle, WA and Ruth Ann Molinaro, of Euclid, OH and daughter in law, Penny Conboy Thomas.  She is further survived by many nieces and nephews. 

At Mary Lou’s request, viewing and a graveside service will be private.  Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St., Erie.
