Mary Jane Lewis, age 91 of Girard, passed away on Wednesday, July 21st 2021 at Elmwood Gardens in Erie.
She was born near Mahaffey Pennsylvania on January 15, 1930, daughter of the late Chester and Pearl Dehaven Rex.
Mary Jane was a graduate of Millcreek High School and studied music at the Conservatory of Music. She was an avid pianist and organist serving our Lord as a musician at many Erie area churches throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States after retiring from the United States Post office. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in Cranesville. Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother that enjoyed camping with family and friends. She loved live theater and concerts and traveled many times to attend and visit organists conventions and churches.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Hazen Lewis, a daughter Karen Johnson Fagley, a sister Nora Miller Mowchan, brothers Eugene Sturgeon and Tom Miller. Survivors include two sons, John (Sibyll) Rex of Arizona, Richard (Norma Jean) Lewis of Girard, 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Mary Jane and Hazen’s life is being planned for late September 2021. Arrangements will be announced by the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street, Girard.
