Mary Kempa

Mary Elizabeth Kempa age 89, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Sarah Reed Senior Living Center. She was born in Erie, PA on June 16, 1927 a daughter of the late Howard and Gertrude Knapp Vogt. Mary attended Harborcreek High School and worked for many years as a waitress for Sudan’s Restaurant as well as for Holiday Inn. She was very fond of taking long walks at Behrend College, traveling, dancing, and going to the theatre but for her family was the most important part of her world. In addition to her parents and spouse Walter Kempa, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Dana Kempa, a sister, Helen Beauticoffer, and a brother, Howard Vogt. She is survived by a son, David Kempa of Evergreen, CO and a daughter, Darlene Mattson and her husband Paul, of Erie, grandson Jamie Mattson and his wife Jody, grandson, Shawn and his wife Jackie. A niece, Mary Ann Butts and a sister-in-law, Myra Butts also remain. Friends may call on Friday, from 1:00 pm till the time of a memorial service at 3:00 pm at Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd., Erie, PA 16510.
