"Adored her grandchildren"
Mary Jane Stephens Trost, 84, of Village Common Dr., Erie, died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge. Along with her husband, Mary Jane retired to Island Green Country Club, Myrtle Beach, SC. She was born Sept. 7, 1927 in Erie, daughter of the late Joseph A. and Jane A. O'Brien Stephens. A 1946 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she worked in the Dietary Department of Western Reserve Health & Rehabilitation Center for 12 years retiring in 1985, and had previously worked in the Gift Department of Duggan-Rider Co., Inc. for five years. While residing Erie, Mary Jane belonged to Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed painting, art work and working with computers; and was the founding member of the "Happy Hatters" at Niagara Village where they knitted hundreds and hundreds of hats for the underprivileged.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, James Raymond Trost in 2002 and two sisters, Joan M. Radack and Cathlyn "Poppy" Griffin.
Survivors include three sons, Gerald L. "Jerry" Trost and wife Sharon and Thomas J. Trost and wife Fay, all of Erie, and Richard R. Trost of Burlingame, CA; a brother, Joseph "Tim" Stephens of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Jamie C. Trost and wife Kathleen Moore of Baltimore, MD and Melissa F. Trost of Annapolis, MD; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and her favorite dog "Jake".
Friends may attend a memorial mass at Sacred Heart Church, 816 W. 26th St., Erie, PA Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 9:30 a.m. celebrated by the Rev. John Detisch. Memorials may be made to Great Lakes Hospice, 1700 Peach St., Erie, PA 16501; or to a charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St., Erie.
