Mary Holodnak

April 8, 1933 — March 13, 2018

Mary Ella McFadden Holodnak, formerly of Erie died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, in Columbus, Ohio. She was born on April 8, 1936 in Pittsburgh, Pa., the son of the late Patrick J. McFadden M.D. and Mary M. Cronin McFadden Carney.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Frank M. Holodnak, an infant brother, John in 1933; a sister, Sarah Ella "Sally" in 1942; a brother William P (Dorothy, Cathy) and Paul E. (Rose) in 2015 , Charles "Chuck" (Janet) in 2010;  two brothers in-law James J Holodnak (Sheila) and Donald A Holodnak (Mabel); a step-father/brothers Charles A., "Jack" and “Bob” Carney.

Mary attended St. Andrew’s grade school in Erie, Villa Maria Academy High School 1954, and was a 1959 graduate of Villa Maria College (BS Med Tech). She and her family were very proud of her nursing degree from Gannon University in 1995 at the age of 59.  Mary worked at St Vincent’s Health Center and Erie Homes for Children for many years. She was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steeler and Pirate fan, enjoyed taking Presque Isle photos and getting her kids lost on hikes.  She had a life-long love of playing cards at the Erie Bridge Center and Pickerington Senior Center as well as rummy games at family gatherings.
 

Mary is survived by her brother Patrick J. (Betty) McFadden, sisters-in-law, Sheila and Cathy;  children, Ann M (Donald) Sarnowski of Michigan, Barbara, Jeffrey (Robin) of Ohio, Jeanne, Michael (Erin), granddaughter Loren Minor all of Pittsburgh, and Thomas of Erie.  Also surviving is a legion of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.


Friends are invited to call at the  Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Sunday March 18,2018  from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with Prayer Services at 5:00 p.m.  A private burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson’s Foundation, or Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation (www.crohnscolitisfoundation.org). A special thank you to the caring staff at Mt. Carmel East Hospital for your expert care over the years.
