Mary Ann Karle

Mary Ann Karle, age 95, of Erie, PA, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023, at her residence in Millcreek Township surrounded by her loving family. Mary Ann was born on July 24, 1928, the daughter of the late Burton S. Silverthorn and Catherine Waschle Silverthorn. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, James Lyle Karle; her brothers, Russell J. Silverthorn, Lee B. Silverthorn, and Daniel S. Silverthorn. She is survived by her daughter Patricia J. Karle (Les); sons, James A. Karle (Lisa), Thomas A. Karle (Len); grandson, Christopher W. Light, and granddaughter, Laura Isobel Karle Stack (Sam); great grandchildren, Sydney Light, and Lincoln Light.

Mary Ann was employed at GE Transportation Systems in Erie, PA for 10 years as a Comptometer Operator. She met her husband, and they married in May 1953. She loved “everything family”, including Sookie the Kitty. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes. She was an expert seamstress and had a knack for miniatures of all kinds. Her love of family is what sustained her and brought her the most joy in her life. She will be missed beyond all words.

Mary Ann was a devoted Catholic and member of St. George’s parish for nearly 70 years. Her last days were spent peacefully surrendering her life to God.

Many thanks to all her caregivers over the years who went above and beyond. Special mention and deep gratitude to the angels who held us up as we walked through her final days: Jeanne, Linda, Lisa, Marissa, and Amie.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a reception on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Burton Quinn Scott Funeral Home, 3801 West 26^th St., Erie, PA 16506 from 10:00 am until time of Celebration of Life Service starting at Noon at the funeral home. Chaplain David Miles of Interim Healthcare Hospice will officiate.

A private burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Interim Healthcare Hospice or the Erie Humane Society.
