Mary Anderson

Mary Alford Anderson of the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, Erie died Friday, February 22, 2013.

She was born in Lander, PA on July 27, 1921, daughter of the late G. Neil and Anna Nelson

Alford.

Mary was a graduate of Union City High School and Erie Commercial College. In addition, she pursued certificate courses in the accounting and insurance fields over the years. She was employed at Bliley Electric Co. of Erie for 17 years, Mutual of New York Life Insurance Co in New York City for 11 years as well as several other private accounts in the accounting field.

Preceding her in death in addition to her parents were sisters: Hazel Colburn, Norma Gordon; brother, John Alford and husbands Herbert D. Myers 12/7/57, Clifford C. Kasbee 8/17/64 and Thomas N. Anderson (whom she married 4/24/68) 9/9/06. Surviving are brothers, R. Neil Alford, Painted Post, NY; G. Nelson Alford and wife Ruth, Post Falls, ID; and Robert E. Alford and wife Ellen, Erie; sisters, Ann Sokolowski, Erie, PA and Martha Williamson, Union City, PA.

In earlier years, Mary enjoyed bowling and golf and in later years, gardening, needlework, playing cards and was an avid reader. She maintained an active correspondence with several friends from various places of residence or travel and was always active in the Methodist Church wherever she was located. Mary was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Erie, PA and the Jane Payne Circle. She was a 50 year member of the Women Of The Moose and was involved in volunteer service with various activities.

No public visitation will be observed.

Dual interment will include the ashes of Thomas N. Anderson and Mary in the Crawford Memorial Cemetery, Emlenton, PA.

A committal service will be held at the cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
