Marvin Lee Allen, Sr., “Marvin Darling” age 62 of Erie, went to glory peacefully on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
He was born in Erie, PA on July 2, 1952, a son of the late Howard Lee and Lilly Pearl Nash Allen.
Marvin attended Technical Memorial High School and worked for General Electric Co. for many years until his retirement.
Before that, he worked for the city of Rome, New York driving trucks for the city for many years.
He was a member of True Holiness Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic. Marvin found the Lord, and was loved and filled with the Holy Ghost.
Earlier in his life, his hobbies were BBQ, frying meat, gardening, cleaning up the yard, playing with his grandchildren and being with his wife, and always going to church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother Charles Allen and one sister Emma Lee Allen Evans. Six uncles and four aunts also preceded him in death along with his father-in-law, Delton Page.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 14 years, Tonya Simmons Allen, two sons: Howard Allen of Erie, Marvin Allen, II of North Carolina, two stepsons: Anthony Brown and Robert Brown of Utica, NY; one daughter Marvetta Allen of North Carolina; two stepdaughters; Lekeisha Gary of NY, and Angelica Powell of Erie,Pa., whom he had a special love for; ten grandchildren and two whom he helped raise, Carlisha and Charity Powell; one brother, Everett Allen; one sister, Maryann Thomas; his mother-in-law Charity Simmons all of Erie. Marvin also leaves two brother’s -in-law; Melvin Hendricks of Gulf Port, Miss. and Delton Williams Sr. of Erie, Pa. along with five sister’s -in- law; Debbie Gibbs (Robert) of Jackson, Miss., Stacey Williams, Vicky Rowan (Lavon), Gwen Carson (Anthony) and Ann Plott (Tim) all of Erie, Pa. A host of nieces, nephews and cousins also remain. Marvin’s best friends were Roy C. Johnson, Robert Ed Stovall, and Bobby Fletcher.
The family would like to give special thanks to hospice caregivers Carrie, Megan, Heather, Theresa, Kathy, Shawne, Chris, and Vongael.
Friends may call on Sunday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, and attend a funeral service on Monday at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Church of God, 1703 Holland St., Erie, Pa. 16503 with Elder George Simmons officiating.
Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.
