Martin Ferrara

July 15, 1950 — May 6, 2021

Martin F. “Marty” Ferrara, age 70, of Millcreek, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 6th following a valiant fight with a brain tumor. He was born in Erie on July 15, 1950 to the late Patrick and Teresa Ferrara.
Marty graduated from St. Andrew’s School in 1964, from Cathedral Preparatory School in 1968, and from Gannon College in 1973 where he pursued a degree in English Literature. While attending Prep, Marty took a job at St. Andrew’s School helping the custodian. It gave him a love for work and assisting others and was the job that put him through college.
Anyone who knew Marty would tell you he was always ready and willing to lend a hand. In that volunteer spirit, Marty was a member of the Erie Sertoma Club, helping raise money for those with hearing disabilities as well as a member of the Elks Lodge #67. He also Co-Founded the Erie Youth Symphony Parent Organization that provided support to young musicians. While his wife worked at the Erie Playhouse, Marty began volunteering as the Prop Master, where he was affectionately known as “The Chief of Stuff.” He loved each minute of those 7 years where he designed props for every stage performance.
Marty retired from Infinity Resources in December of 2019, after 27 years as a Staff Co-Ordinator. In the summers, Marty could be found working outdoors where he loved mowing the lawn, trimming trees, planting gardens, walking his corgi, Winston, and ending the day with a cold drink. In the winter, Marty became an avid gamer - especially playing as Ezio in Assassin’s Creed. Marty had an infectious smile, a wicked wit, and a brilliant sense of humor, always ready with a good joke to make you smile. When friends Els and Burt Cox had the idea to ask Marty for assistance in renovating their dog school in Fairview, the planning of, building, and seeing the school open was one of his proudest achievements.
Marty is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary Rose (Reisenweber) Ferrara and daughter Maureen “Moe” Ferrara. Marty was a devoted husband and father, and he made his wife laugh every day. He was proud of his daughters’ musical talents, never missing a concert or show and would tell anyone who would listen about Moe’s job as a Literary Agent.
He is also survived by his older brother Mark Ferrara (Karen), nephew Andrew Ferrara, and numerous other nieces and nephews. He is also survived by life-long friends Cindy & Chris Kuhn, Pat & Chris Getz, Chris & Jim Hoover, and Els & Burt Cox.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Funeral Home at 3801 West 26th Street, Erie PA 16506 on Thursday May 13 from 1-3 pm and 5-7pm with a service to follow at 7pm officiated by Father Shawn Clerkin. Masks will be required.
Memorial donations may be made to the Something Els Dog School, 8519 State Road, Girard, PA 16417 or to The Erie Playhouse, 13 West 10th Street, Erie, PA 16501.
