Martin J. Badders, age 75, of Lake City, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Erie on December 28, 1946, a son of the late Walter and Kathrine Bauer Badders.
He graduated from Rice Avenue Union High School, class of 1965. Marty joined the Navy after graduation, serving in Vietnam and the in the Mediterranean. Upon completion of his service, he married Linda Benton, whom he had known since childhood when he worked on her grandmother’s farm. Marty was employed as a machinist, working at GE, Copes, and Parker White. He then began his long career in Quality Control within the Defense Logistics Agency.
Marty was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Girard and managed Bingo at the St. John’s Parish Center for 31 years. In his free time, Marty enjoyed hunting and reading. He was an avid gardener, spending hours meticulously caring for his yard. He loved going on long bike rides, visiting with his friends at “Marvin’s Round Table” and McDonald’s, and going to the Girard Boro Park on Sundays to sit by the pond and read the newspaper. He was a beloved Grampy who loved to spend time with all of his grandchildren, hosting hot dog and marshmallow roasts and watching them play.
In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by his sisters; Kathy Peters, Barbara Santillo, Connie Palmer, Annette Komisarski, and her husband, Joe.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Linda Benton Badders; a daughter, Carrie (Joe) LaFuria, of Harborcreek; a son, Greg (Becky) Badders of Millcreek; brothers, Bill (Sue) Badders of Cleveland, and David (Karen) Badders of Girard; a sister, Christine Badders of Lake City; grandchildren, Eva and Giada LaFuria, and Isla, Ellie, Declan, and Reagan Badders. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law David (Susan) Benton, Gary Santillo, and Herb Palmer.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, in Girard on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. and are invited to attend a prayer service there Friday at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at the St. John Parish Center, 1001 Main Street E, Girard.
Burial in St. John Cemetery with full military honors.
