Mark J. Kubeja, 69, was called to Heaven on Good Friday, April 2, 2021, at his home in Erie surrounded by his loving family.
On January 21, 1952, Mark was born in Erie to Leonard and Cecilia (Hyziewicz) Kubeja full of spunk, character, and a sense of humor that could captivate a room. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary and graduated from Cathedral Prep in 1969. He went on to study business and marketing at Penn State University before returning home to his favorite place on earth, Erie, Pennsylvania; home of beautiful lake views and cheap booze.
Mark was preceded in death by his sister and neighbor of 35 years, Dianne Wells. He will also be joining his brothers-in-law, Joseph Wells and John Brady in Heaven.
He is survived by his best friend, personal stylist, and wife of 38 years, Marilyn Kubeja. Mark was blessed to come from a house full of women, and built his own house full of women. He was a wonderful father and ally to Katharine (Thomas) Zadera, Kara (Cory) Knight, and Kelsey (Stephen) Fatica. He had four grandchildren, Leonard and Judith Zadera and Maxine and Eleanor Knight. He is also survived by two sisters, Judy (Ed) Hess, and Elaine Brady. Mark has many nieces, nephews, and friends akin to family who will also be mourning his loss.
To know Mark was to love him, and there were few people he couldn’t force a laugh out of. When he wasn’t laughing, he was reading war stories, solving crossword puzzles, reciting cowboy and gangster films, and riding his bike around Presque Isle. Mark loved talking with family and friends more than anything and one of his greatest joys was becoming a grandfather. Forever a lover of the underdog, Mark was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and was proud to don his “Jesus Hates the Yankees” T-shirt. His personality is unmatched and he will be sorely missed by many.
Family and friends may celebrate his life on Monday, April 5th from 9:00 am until his 10:00 am funeral mass at St. Patrick Church, 130 E Fourth St, Erie, 16507. The burial service will immediately follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Fairview, Pa. Arrangements are entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services, 3801 West 26th St. Erie, 16506.
