Marjorie Fullerton Rauth Blass, age 93, of Erie, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at Forestview Nursing Home.
She was born on January 2, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the daughter of the late Charles Rogers Rauth and Marjorie Fullerton Rauth.
Mrs. Blass graduated from the Agnes Irwin School for Girls in Wynnewood, PA and attended Smith College.
She was a member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul and the Kahkwa Club. A past member of Erie Maennerchor Club, Carrie T. Watson Garden Club, and Riomar Country Club in Vero Beach, FL where she used to winter.
She was active in numerous civic organizations in Erie in her younger days, serving as president of the Junior League of Erie from 1960 until 1962 and as president of the Visiting Nurse Association of Erie County. She served on the board of the Association of Junior Leagues of America representing region XIV (PA, NJ, and Del.) from 1962 until 1964. She served on the Board of the United States Senior Women’s Golf Association for many years and served as its President from 1990 until 1992. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Sorority.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frederick A. Blass, Sr. former Board Chairman and Treasurer of the old Koehler Brewery in 2002. Two brothers, Charles R. Rauth, Jr. and William E. Rauth, and a daughter in law JoAnne Blass also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Marjorie Blass Smathers and her husband Frederick Durlin Bauschard; a son, Frederick A. Blass, Jr.; two grandsons, Winfield Scott Smathers IV and his wife Karen; and Geoffrey R. Smathers and his wife Jacqueline, and seven great grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and are invited to attend a service on Saturday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul 133 West 6th Street, Erie, PA 16501 at 11:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Dean Downey officiating.
Burial will be at Erie Cemetery.
