Marilyn Ann Melhuish age 88, of Erie, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at Forest View Skilled Nursing Center.
She was born in Liberty Township, Susquehanna County, on June 11, 1934, a daughter of the late Douglas and Anna Cruser Melhuish.
Marilyn graduated from Hallstead, PA High School in 1952 and received a Bachelors in Elementary Education from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1956. In 1960 she received a Master’s in Education from Penn State University at State College.
She began her teaching career in Montrose, Pa teaching first grade from 1956 to 1960 and then served as the Assistant Professor at Edinboro University in Elementary Education for 31 years, teaching elementary students at the campus school and teaching and advising college level students.
Marilyn loved to travel, and her extensive travels took her through the United States, Canada and many international countries. She enjoyed reading, baking and playing games.
She was a member of Hallstead, PA Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Alpha Iota Chapter for 57 years where she served as President for two years and Treasurer for 30 Years and a member of the State Historical Records Committee for 4 years. She was a member of the Shadbush Club of Edinboro for 52 years and served as President for 2 years and Membership Secretary for 34 years. Marilyn served as President of the Edinboro University Women’s Association for four years and a Board Member of the German Cultural Society of Erie for four years. She also served as President of the Springhill Resident Council for a year and was a member for four years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Charles Melhuish; sister-in-law, Jan Melhuish and a special companion, Henry Katzwinkel.
She is survived by two sisters, Jan (Dave) Williams of Lewisburg, PA and Joyce (Virgil) Paggen of N. Granbury, CT; four nephews, Tom (Nichole) Williams, Nick (Alison) Williams, Bryan (Sarah) Paggen, and Darren Melhuish; a niece, Tiffany (Bob) Baxter; five great nephews and five great nieces.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Hallstead, PA.
