Marie Michalak

Marie C. Michalak , formerly of Brooklyn, NY, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at St. Mary’s at Asbury Ridge in Erie, PA. Prior to moving to Erie in 1996, and residing at Parkside at Westminister, she spent most of her life in Brooklyn, NY, where she was born in 1924 and was the daughter to the late Anthony and Frances (Maio) Rago. Marie was a graduate of P.S. 131 and Pershing High School in Brooklyn, NY. She was employed at Rothstein’s Department Store while in high school and after raising her three children, Marie worked at several banks as a vault attendant until retiring in 1989 from the Greater NY Savings Bank. During her life, when not raising and caring for her family, she enjoyed cooking and traveling. She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Roman Catholic Church in Erie and formerly of St. Catherine of Alexandria and St. Patrick Roman Catholic Churches in Brooklyn, NY.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Casmir of 40 years and her brother Julius Rago.

Survivors include one daughter, Linda Anderson and her husband James of Gilbert, AZ; two sons, Dennis Michalak, MD and his wife Rebecca of Erie, PA and William Michalak, MD and his wife Donna of Mars, PA; grandchildren Jennifer Ward; Timothy Nihill, Jr. and his wife Janet; Laura Michalak, Anthony Michalak, and Christopher Michalak; and great grandchildren, Christina; Samantha; Sheila; Brenden; Emma and Hannah. She is also survived by one sister, Mildred Setteducato of Fairlawn, NJ as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the McLaughlin Funeral Home 9620 3rd Ave. Brooklyn, NY on Wednesday January 15 from 4:00 until 8:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Catherine of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church, 41st St. and Fort Hamilton Pkwy Brooklyn, NY on Thursday January 16, at 9:30am followed by burial in Greenwood Cemetery Brooklyn, NY.
