Marianne (Rapp) O’ Day, age 84, of Erie passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023 at UPMC Hamot. She was born August 15, 1938 in Erie the daughter of the late Walter and Marie (Houlihan) Rapp.
A lifelong resident of Erie, Marianne began working at General Telephone (GTE) during her high school years. She first started counting the change from the pay telephones and worked her way up to executive secretary of the vice president. She finally retired after 39 years as a Consumer Affairs representative. She was a member of the Erie Business Professional Women’s group and served on the board of the GTE Federal Credit Union, and also with SCORE. Marianne served on the board of the Young Artists Debut Orchestra (YADO) and was a founding member of Instruments of Hope.
Pre- COVID Marianne was active in several social clubs and enjoyed visiting with the members at the VFW Post 470, the Sportsmens Club, and was one of the first female members of the BPOE Elks Lodge 67 where she was a former officer(secretary). She also enjoyed the game a golf , but her biggest joy was her granddaughter, Deirdre Kate, who was her “Angel from God”
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, her twin sister Marilee Rapp and Virginia Wieczkowski along with her former husband, Charles E. O’ Day.
Marianne is survived by a son, Patrick O’ Day (Paola Quiroz) of Brookfield, WI; a daughter, Kathleen Mehler of Erie; a granddaughter, Deidre O’ Day; a brother James Rapp (Becky) and two sisters, Nedra and Helen Rapp.
There will be no visitation and a Memorial Mass at St. Andrew Catholic church will be announced by the family at a later date.
