Margaret Wasser

Margaret A. Laase Wasser, age 85, of East Springfield, passed away surrounded by her family on Friday May, 26, 2017 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West following a brief illness.

She was born in Girard, OH , on January 5, 1932, a daughter of the late Edward M. and Dorothy Higgins Laase.

She worked many years as a nurse’s aide at Brown Memorial Hospital in Conneaut, OH.

She was a member of St. Jude Church and was very devoted to her faith. She loved bird watching, and blue birds were her favorite.

Margaret loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she was so proud of them and enjoyed sharing photos and stories with the staff and residences of Pleasant Ridge Manor. The family wishes to thank the staff at Pleasant Ridge Manor for their love and care that they extended to her for over 8 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Hollis E. “Holly”Wasser in 2015; 3 sisters: Shirley Kikola, Ruth Sheldon, and Joyce Hetzel.

She is survived by her children: Steve and his wife Michelle of East Springfield, PA, Barb Rettig and her husband Bill of Centerville, OH, and Dan of Erie; a sister, Betty Fairchild of Erie and a brother in law: Ronald Hetzel of Liberty, NC; ten grandchildren: Heather, Matthew, Josh, Kevin, Amber, and Codi Wasser, Brittney Rettig-Hidalgo, Jake, Connor and Madison Rettig; and three great grandchildren: Myah Wingard and Elliana and Benson Hidalgo and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard on Tuesday from 2-5 p.m., and are invited to attend a mass of Christian burial on Wednesday at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th Street at 10:30a.m. with Reverend John Detisch, celebrant.  Burial will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
