Margaret E. “Betty” Victor age 80 of Erie, passed away, Sunday July 20, 2014. She was born July 26, 1933 in Ridgeway, PA.
She was the daughter of the late Lyle T. Shaver and Mary Law Shaver.
She was a graduate of the Ridgeway area schools. After graduating she took a position as an administrative assistant at International Powdered Metals Company.
In 1955 she married M.T. “Spike” Victor. She became a homemaker and raised her beloved step daughters, Carol Swanson, Peggy Howard, and Marcia Dunton. She was later blessed to have two children of her own, Michael and Frank Victor.
In 1974 she founded an exclusive women’s boutique called “Lizbeth’s of Ridgeway.” It was extraordinarily successful and she sold it in the mid-1980. While a resident of Ridgeway, she was deeply involved in the Woman’s Auxiliary of the Elk County General Hospital and Chaired the Hospital’s charity ball numerous times.
After her husband’s death in 1989, she moved to Erie, to be closer to her two sons. While in Erie, she served on the board of directors of Pyramid Industries, Inc. and its subsidiaries. She also served as a trustee for Gannon University and was a member of the Hamot Aid Society.
When her son Michael was appointed president of Lake Erie College, she moved to Lake County, OH.
She died peacefully after a lengthy illness at the home of her son Frank in Erie.
She was an Episcopalian and a member of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. Paul.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, M.T. “Spike” Victor.
She is survived by her sons, Michael T. Victor (Craige Pepper Victor) and Frank B. Victor (Eryn Victor), her step daughters, Carol Swanson (Preston), Peggy V. Howard, and Marcia V. Dunton; her grandchildren, Courtney Russ (Colin), Sydney Victor, Sloane Victor, Madison Victor, Anthony Ciotti, Cory Esper, P. Bowman Root IV, and Wade Root; her great granddaughter and namesake, Reagan Margaret Russ. She is further survived by her step-grandchildren Mario T. Swanson (Evelyn), Virginia Santinello (David), John Paul Swanson, Tina Benniger (Joe), Donald L. Howard (Darlene), Dean S. Howard (Christine), Daniel V. Howard (Michelle), Mary M. McGrath (Padraic), E. Edward Dunton III (Montana), and Victoria Dunton, along with numerous step- great- grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Richard T. Shaver (Elizabeth).
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Paul Episcopal Church 133 W. 6th Street, Erie, PA 16501 with the Very Reverend Dean John Downey officiating.
