Margaret Templeton

April 17, 1924 — June 12, 2013

Margaret H. “Peg” Templeton age 89, of Erie, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at UPMC Hamot Hospital.

She was born in Brush, Colorado on April 17, 1924, the daughter of the late Hubert C. and Lucy VanMatre Hickman.

She graduated from Windsor High School and attended Colorado Women’s College and Parks Business School.

Peg spent her early years working in Estes Park, Colorado, her lifelong love was for the mountains.

She was a member of the Sertoma Women’s Group, Hamot Aide Society, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and was a member at First United Methodist Church.

Her biggest joy in life was her family, never missing an opportunity to be with them. Her family joined her in St. Pete Beach, Fla. every year for many years, and back to the Colorado Rockies as often as she could. She also loved dancing, traveling, good food and entertaining friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gail A. Templeton whom she married on March 9, 1946, in June, 2003, and a great granddaughter Hailey Grace Orlando.

She is survived by a son Van Alan Templeton and his wife Kristine of Metuchen, New Jersey; three daughters: Kay Woods and her husband Stephen of Oil City; Sandra Orlando and her husband Douglas; and Patricia Ras and her husband Edward all of Erie. Further survived by 14 grandchildren: Sarah (Tom) Micek, Katie, Eric, Etagegnehu and Nasifae Templeton, Erin Boucher, Jen (Mac) Howison, Stephanie Woods (Evan Gealy), Matthew (Kathy), Quentin (Kim), and Brad (Carleen) Orlando, Nora (Mitch) Gerlach, Dustin (Cristina) and Brian (Celeste Valerio) Ras, 11 great grandchildren and many friends.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26th St. to celebrate her life, on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 10 until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Children’s Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1001 State Street, Erie PA 16501 or the charity of one’s choice.
