Margaret Mae Murray, beloved daughter of Brian and Mary Amidon Murray, went to soar with the angels on Sept. 30, following a tragic accident at Lido Beach, Sarasota, FL.
She was born May 21, 1996 in Erie and was living in Bradenton, FL while attending LECOM Dental School.
Maggie was baptized at St. Peter Cathedral. She graduated from McDowell High School where she was a four-year volleyball player, a member of the National Honor Society and participated in the Honor’s Program.
A scholar-athlete, Maggie was recruited by Seton Hill University to play on the volleyball team where she forged lifelong friendships with her team members, coaches and students. She was a two-year team captain and graduated from Seton Hill with a degree in Biology in 2018.
Maggie was offered early admission to LECOM Dental School in Bradenton, FL to pursue her dream of becoming a dentist. Although Maggie had only been in Florida for three months, she easily acclimated to her new home, creating strong relationships with her LECOM family of students, faculty and staff.
Although her studies were demanding, Maggie spent as much time as possible at the beach, on the volleyball court and at the pool. Maggie loved life and loved being in Florida. She told her family that she loved learning, and confirmed that she was following her passion.
Her kindness, infectious laugh and generous nature were hallmarks of her personality, coupled with the competitive spirit and fierce determination she developed as an athlete.
She was preceded in heaven by her maternal grandparents, Joyce and Albert ‘Al” Amidon; her paternal grandfather, Paul J. Murray; her beloved great aunts, Margaret ‘Peg’ Murray and Sally Genck; and great uncle, Charles ‘Chuck’ Genck.
In addition to her parents, she leaves on Earth her grandmother, Kathyrn A. Murray; her two best friends: a sister, Alexandra A. Murray and a brother, Brian M. Murray Jr.; aunt, Judy A. Battaglia; uncles, Michael Amidon (Kathleen), Dennis P. Murray (Sherry) and Terry Murray (Joyce); great aunts, Shirley Heidt and Nancy Genck; cousins, John Battaglia, Rob Battaglia, Laura Battaglia, Brendan Murray, Paul Murray, and Ryan Murray; dearest friend, Katie Wenson; godparents, Brenda Martin and Tom Weber; and numerous extended family.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Quinn Funeral Home, 728 W. 9th St. A Celebration of Life will be observed with the Rev. Brenda Martin on Monday at noon at the Sunset Inn, 1990 Lakeside Drive.
