Margaret Riazzi Kightlinger age 88, of Erie, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2015 at Manchester Commons.
She was born in Steubenville, OH on September 29, 1926, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Anna Utzig Schmitzer.
She graduated from St. Benedict School in Erie.
Margaret was very passionate about her sales career at Arthur F. Schultz as well as her volunteer work at the Erie VA Hospital.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the ladies Auxiliary of Siebenburger Club.
She was a vibrant, sassy woman, with an independent spirit, who lived life for her family. She loved spending time at Presque Isle and with her grandchildren. She was known for her gorgeous, silver hair and tall stature. She was able to talk to people and could make a friend out of anyone she met.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Patrick G. Riazzi; her second husband, A. Robert Kightlinger; brother-in-law, John Galbraith; and sisters-in-law, Susan DelPorto, Antoinette Cacchione and Mary Rigazzi.
She is survived by two sons, Sonny Riazzi of Sarasota, FL and Matthew C. Riazzi of Erie; a daughter, Suzanne R. Bello and her husband Joseph of Erie; grandchildren, Michael Riazzi (Tracy), Samuel Riazzi, Jamie Riazzi (Mallory), Heather Riazzi (Craig Kooken), Joanne C. Bello, Anthony P. Bello (Evelyn) and Kathryn S. Bello; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruthie Galbraith and Dolores Moore (Chas) both of Virginia; daughter-in-law, Pamela Riazzi of Fairview and a close friend of the family, Maggie Hindes of Virginia. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:30 p.m. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Manchester Commons for their compassion, care and love they gave to Margaret.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the VA Medical Center’s “Welcome Home Fund” 135 E. 38th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
