Margaret (Peggy) Hain Bogardus, age 77, of Erie passed away peacefully Sunday, March 11, 2018 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 3, 1940 in Erie the daughter of the late Robert D. and Margaret Mahoney Hain.
Peggy was a 1958 graduate of East High School and then attended Hamot’s School of Nursing. She then received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Villa Maria College and returned to Hamot’s School of Nursing as an instructor. Peggy later returned to Villa Maria College and received a Bachelor’s degree in English and later graduated with a Master’s degree in English from Edinboro University She then proceeded to become a longtime English teacher with the Iroquois school district. Peggy was a member of the Hamot Aide Society, Erie Maennerchor club Auxiliary, the Erie Women’s club, and was a former member of the East Erie Turners.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Attorney Robert D. Hain.
Peggy is survived by her husband, Peter Bogardus; a daughter Melissa Bogardus; stepsons, David Bogardus (Sara), Thomas Bogardus (Barb) and James Bogardus (Jennifer). She is the sister of Adrianne Duggan and her husband William of Madison, CT and is further survived by numerous other relatives and her longtime friend, Diane Nowak.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the many caregivers over the years who provided her with wonderful care and support during her illness.
Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and are invited to attend Funeral Services there Thursday at 11:00 AM followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery.
