Mahlon E. Hirsch age 97, of Fairview, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.
He was born in Erie, a son of the late Charles and Iva Wheeler Hirsch.
Mahlon graduated from Academy High School and graduated from the GE Apprentice program in 1939. He went on to work as a toy designer at Marx Toys for over 30 years, where he was the holder of numerous patents.
He was a member of the Tyrian Commonwealth Lodge #362 F. & A. M.; the Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Erie; and the Zem Zem Temple Shrine. He was also a member of Luther Memorial Church, , Thermal “G” Model Club, and Erie Camera Club.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Hildegard Scholz Hirsch; two sisters, Gertrude Weigand and Charlene Mando of North East; and a brother Charles Hirsch.
He is survived by two nieces, Marcia Nielsen and her husband James and Marlene Beatman; and three nephews, Charles Hirsch and Joseph and James Mando.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor William Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Pleasant Ridge Manor West, and his many friends and neighbors, especially Brian and Pam Madara for the care and compassion and friendship they have shown to Mahlon over the years.
