M. Elaine Leopold - Zula

M. Elaine Leopold-Zula, age 93, of Fairview, passed away on Tuesday June 25, 2024, at Manchester Commons following a long illness.

She was born in Fairview Township on July 13, 1930, daughter of the late Lawrence and May Weislogel Pfeffer. 

She was a 1948 graduate of Fairview High School. She was a homemaker while her children were young and went on to work at Weisogel’s IGA (Shur-Fine) in Fairview for over 23 years. She married her high school sweetheart, Ed, and they spent many years working on the family farm together. She really loved tending the vegetable stand at the farmer market, first for Leopolds Farm and later for Barners Market at the West Erie Plaza. She enjoyed sewing clothes, quilting and making decorative knickknacks. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 742 ladies auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband of 51 years, Edward R. Leopold; and her second husband, John B. Zula. She was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph “Jody”; and a brother, Thomas Pfeffer.

She is survived by her three sons, Darryl Leopold (Lisa) of Girard, James Leopold (Susan) of Fairview, Roger Leopold (Cathy) of Fairview; her daughter, Pamela Yenny (David) of Erie; 15 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; she is further survived by a brother, Robert Pfeffer of Fairview; sister in law, Donna Peffer of Fairview and Rosie Tuten (Bryan) of Erie; William Leopold (Dorothy) of Ohio and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East, Girard on Sunday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm. Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heart filled thank you to the staff at Manchester Commons for not only treating her like family for the last 7 years but also for giving her a friendly and safe home in her final years. We also want to thank Kristin and the staff of AseraCare for helping guide us through mom’s final days.
