Ellen (Head) Gambill Lydia Gambill age 87 of Erie, passed away peacefully at Saint Mary’s Home East on Friday May 1, 2015. Lydia was born in Erie, PA on September 10, 1927 the only child of the late Durward E and Ella Mae (Williams) Head.
She graduated from Strong Vincent High School in 1947. In 1981 she graduated with an Associate Degree in Social Work from Villa Maria College.
Lydia retired from Erie Technological Products and Saint Vincent Health Center.
She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Parish where she was active with Vacation Bible School.
Lydia enjoyed traveling, shopping, reading, crossword puzzles, bowling and was a member of the Poisettes Bowling League. She also was a member of the Hi-Lite Club.
She was a volunteer at the American Cancer Society and received their Flower Power Award in 1984 for her participation in Daffodil Days.
In addition to her parents, Lydia was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Gambill Sr, enjoying 66 years of marriage.
She is survived by sons, Vernon Jr. (Martha), Paul (Renee), Gordon (Francine) and daughter, Linda Love (Walter). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 5 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends and family may call at Burton Funeral Home 602 West 10th Street on Monday May 4th from 4 to 7pm. Funeral Services will be held at St Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church 315 E 9th Street on Tuesday at 10a.m with Rev. Stanley Swacha officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of The Immaculate Conception Church.
