Luther Jones, Jr.

Luther Michael Jones, Jr., a 6-year-old elementary student of Erie, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 11, 2019 with his other 3 siblings. Son of Shevona Overton and Luther Jones, Sr.

Luther, Jr. was born August 8, 2013. He was such a sweet boy who loved to play outside and explore many things.  Luther was a lover of animals and loved to play with his siblings, friends from school, and his tablet.  He always wanted to be with his father and was a daddy’s boy.   He attended McKinley Elementary School. He would have been starting the first grade. Luther, Jr. was a member of Second Baptist Church and participated in various youth activities and plays.

He is survived by his mother, Shevona Overton (Yoniel Rivera) and father, Luther Joines, Sr. (Shamelia), sister, Ramona Jones, brothers, Tyrese, Damien, Jamari, and Amanee Jones, and a stepbrother, ZyShawn DeBoe, his grandmothers, Shebby Overton and Valarie Lockett Slupski (Shawn), great-grandmother, Elsie Overton, his aunt, Shequel Overton, uncle, Joshua Lockett, cousins, Na’Zhya, Shemai, and Shemad Green, Godmother, Fayeshia Crosby, and many other cousins.

Luther, Jr. is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, James Dixon, paternal grandparents, Richard and Annie Lockett, great-grand parents, Ernestine and David Jones, and Genevieve Charity. 

Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours Saturday, August 17, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 noon at the Bayfront Convention Center, 1 Sassafras Pier, Erie, PA 16507, with (Pastor) Rev. LaMont A. Higginbottom, Sr. eulogizing and Rev. Anthony G. Harris as the officiant.  Burial will follow at Erie Cemetery.
