Lucy Sims

July 22, 1944 — December 23, 2012

Lucy Ann Sims age 68, of Erie, died Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Saint Vincent Health Center.

She was born in Laurel, MS. on July 22, 1944, a daughter of the late Freddish and Annalola Golden Adams.

She moved to Erie and graduated from East High School. For many years Lucy worked domestically and provided health care and other services with the Erie School District, AI Cleaning, Service Master and as a grandparent with the GECAC Senior Program.

Lucy was very involved in her church (currently New Revelation Full Gospel Baptist Church) and loved to sing. She was an active participant and long standing member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where she sang with the Gospel Chorus Choir. She also sang with the Erie Gospel Choir and the MLK Choir.

She also loved spending time with her family and playing board games and cards. She was also a fan of scrabble and was an avid bowler for several local teams. In addition to her parents, Lucy was preceded in death by a son Morris Earl Adams and a daughter, Lucy Ann M. Sims. She was also preceded by her former spouse, Ellis Sims Jr. and sisters Mary Adams and Katie Mae Adams, and brother Johnny Lee Adams.

Survivors include five children, Pomona Adams of Erie, Anna Akins and her husband Bennie of Erie, Ellis Sims and his wife Xynique of Twinsburg, OH., Charmaine Sims of Erie and Tamika Sims of Erie. She is further survived by fourteen siblings: Lee, Willie, Thelma, Elizabeth, David, Thomas, Robert, Donald, Virgia, Paul, Fredrick, Lucetsera, Jerome, and Debra; ten grandchildren: Dante, Tywan, Rubye, Delvon, Schaquita, Quren, Quran, Terrick, Jadaka and Xaria. And a very dear friend Estelle Hamilton.

Friends may call at the Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2624 German Street on Saturday from 11:00 am till the time of service there at 1:00 pm with Pastor Weyman Stephens officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West Tenth Street, Erie.
